These Things I Know

These Things I Know

God’s acts should fill us all with awe;
He brings to us His best each day.
Christ cares so much, He died for sin,
at times my eyes and ears still stray.
Christ builds our faith with His free grace,
and gives us hope in place of strife.
He shows the “ins” and "outs" of joy,
our King, our Lord, our truce, our life.

God marks us safe with His own seal
which needs no lock nor want of key.
God is our peace, our fear he quells.
He is so real though we can't see.
Our trust must come to grips with doubt.
With “ums” and “ers” we vow and weave
and try to prove "x", "y" and "z".
Truth lies in how God wills to cleave.

Author's Notes: to cleave can mean to separate or to cling tightly.  God does both.
This piece I worked for simplicity, using only one-syllable words.

About the Poet
Growing older with some pains and discomfort, graying hair, glasses, partial plate and hearing aids but with complete assurance of my eternal domain. Saved by choice by Gods free grace by Jesus life, death and resurrection. Born and bred in the Bluegrass State for 24 years, I crossed the Ohio River and became a Hoosier forever thereafter until that time God calls me to my heavenly home. Christian for fifty-five plus years. Church musician and SS teacher for most all of my Wednesdays and Sundays. Public school teacher for thirty-six school terms; retired with a class now of three grandchildren off and on during the week. Wife for half my life to the same superman. Mama to two unique sons. Mother-in-law to a fine daughter; Nana to one darling girl and two handsome guys. God has blessed me abundantly; thank you, Father. God quiets my hackles; God quickens my heart; God quells my hunger. Blessed be His holy name.
