Wonder Well, for Such Is Wisdom

Wanting to show myself worthy -

work was not one of my weapons.

Weakly, I worded my secret --

“I wish of your wealth my fair share.”

Worried and warned by the world’s ways,

father willingly stood my weakness.

He watched steady by the window,

worn weary - waiting my sojourn.

Selfishly wayward and wicked,

soon I was spurned as a wastrel.

I woke from stubborn wantonness

wishing my stomach well-fed.

Wallowing from waste, I started

wobbling forthwith to my father.

Sensing his wrath would be severe

wailing, “set me as your servant,”

Waving to me, shoulders stretched wide

weeping he walks t'wards me warmly.

Washing my wounds with his welcome -

my worth did not warrant his smiles.

Witnessing this scene from afar

but  wretched and wrestling  within,

sibling wanted whys and wherefores,

not wasting words on my welfare.

This story stops short  suddenly -

no written word of a war waged -

no whaling, no whining, no woe.

Wonder well, for such is wisdom.

About the Poet
Growing older with some pains and discomfort, graying hair, glasses, partial plate and hearing aids but with complete assurance of my eternal domain. Saved by choice by Gods free grace by Jesus life, death and resurrection. Born and bred in the Bluegrass State for 24 years, I crossed the Ohio River and became a Hoosier forever thereafter until that time God calls me to my heavenly home. Christian for fifty-five plus years. Church musician and SS teacher for most all of my Wednesdays and Sundays. Public school teacher for thirty-six school terms; retired with a class now of three grandchildren off and on during the week. Wife for half my life to the same superman. Mama to two unique sons. Mother-in-law to a fine daughter; Nana to one darling girl and two handsome guys. God has blessed me abundantly; thank you, Father. God quiets my hackles; God quickens my heart; God quells my hunger. Blessed be His holy name.
