Flames upon the Water

Flame upon the Water

The river flows between dry banks
Of sand, and bush, and stone,
A vein of life amid the flanks
Of muscle, skin, and bone.

What water can subdue the thirst
Of lips, and tongue, and throat
That sought some satisfaction first
For what desires tote?

A water for the cracked and hardened
Surfaces of sin,
A water for the guilt and pardoned
Thirsty soul within.

Amid the rushing river flow
The cleansing water came,
And when the thirst of earth let go,
The Spirit lit a flame!

Matthew 3:11. I baptize you with water for repentance....; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
