Choosing to Die

Choosing to Die

I never thought I'd want to die,
but Jesus gave the reason why...
my flesh fights me night and day,
it always seeks to have its way!
my best efforts are in vain,
the things of God will remain.

I can reject the truth if I choose,
but guess who'd be the one to lose?
yes, it would be my mistake
if God's instructions I forsake...
I will live to please the Lord,
anything less I can't afford.
I'll decrease so Christ can reign,
for to lose myself I've all to gain!

Mark 8:34-36  "If any of you wants to be My followers, Jesus said, you must put aside your selfish ambition, shoulder your cross and follow Me.  If you try to keep your life for yourself, you will lose it.  But if you give up your life for My sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will find true life."

About the Poet
Christian since 1973, widowed in 2007, but by the divine appt. of God, I married a wonderful, godly widower in Oct. 2010. Three grown, married sons and eight grandchildren. My first love is Jesus who inspires my pen, for apart from Him I can do nothing! I desire to honor the Lord and edify readers thru poetry He inspires.
