Unrequited in Oklahoma
(C) Famida Basheer

Outside the naked wind roars
Racing through cracks in windowpanes
Uttering gibberish in her frenzy
To communicate; guttural and screeching by turns.

The rain pours down carving new water roads
That flee away with what used to be a day.

Tomorrow broken trees and scattered leaves
With smells of yesterday
Will tell the wind's  story
To an immune world .
I have loved, see,  I have loved, she will whisper.
Gently then fiercely with incessant tears
Have I loved.
The game was true, the rules uncertain
Yet I have loved.
The words were new, some left unspoken
Still I have loved.
Havent I left  Armeggadon in my wake to show you
I have loved!

And the  world will shake its head
look skyward and seek a sun.
