What Makes Us Cling
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

What Makes Us Cling

What makes us cling to life and lust

What makes us loathe to pray?

What hinders both the eye and heart

And makes us go astray?

Is it but greed for breath of life

Is it the yearn to own

To see, to make, to keep, to break,

The baubles of life's tree?

Look far over your shoulder now

See all that has gone past.

Through centuries of life's distrust

There is one truth that lasts-

The love of hearts for other hearts

The know of soul of soul

The sense that we have all been born

To know that we must go.

How same we are! How very same !

And yet we senseless be

To see each life as unalike.

So fractured at the knee!
