Rainy Afternoon

Rainy Afternoon

Clouds thick and grey
The street muddy
I listen to the hurried squelching
Of schoolkids' shoes in puddles.
They race home to a warm dry place

I watch a rose-bud drooping in the rain
Like the white dove that scans the skies
Which alights on a wet place
Drops of rain glance off its beak
Maybe the wetness is its happy thought.
Who can tell the intricacies of simplicity?
