Tread Softly
(c) Famida Basheer

Laser thin dreams
In packages that open inwards.

Outside, a fasting cloud
that withers away as it prays.

There is not much that clings to the soul
As does the feeling left behind .

Gossamer swings carry my reveries
to a new high and then a new low

never stopping to reconsider
the mock trees they swing from
that evaporate at the sound of my own heartbeat.

Inside, there is nothing to reconsider.
Inside, there is you.
