When my husband isn't treating me
the way I think he should,
Help me not to be his conscience
or to try to make him good;
For he'll fight a nagging conscience
but he'll love a loving wife,
And some old-fashioned encouragement
can rule out lots of strife.

When he turns that darned ol' TV on
when he comes home at night,
Help me not be so contentious,
help me keep my mouth shut tight;
For I'll get the wrong reaction
if I rant and scream and yell,
though I might win his attention, Lord,
I'll lose his love as well.

When he won't do things he should do
till I want to wring his neck,
Cause my eyes to see his *good* points
when I want to give him heck;
With his wealth of wives and wisdom
it was Solomon who said,
"Better man should live upon a roof
than live with Hate instead."

Take this heart full of contention, Lord,
trade-in the one I've got,
Help me dwell on things I DO have...
not the things that I have not;
Great Physician, time for surgery,
remove the things I can't:
Swap contention with contentment, Lord,
and give me a transplant.
