Trudy and the Big White Cat

Written by Nan Forehand

This is the story of Trudy and the big white cat

Divine intervention, imagine that!

This morning I was told my beloved brother, Woody has died

In great disbelief, I listened and I cried

Better to be around others, I went to work

This work of mine, I’ll never shirk

As the morning progressed

To Leann, my co worker, I professed

As I walked down the hall

An uncanny desire to go to the mall

For something new to wear to the final event

The upcoming scene was surely Heaven sent

To Belk for, perhaps, a dress or blouse, no need for a hat

Little did I know I’d soon meet the big white cat

As I approached Belk, the cat greeted me with a rub

My salutation, it did not snub

Male or female, I’ll never know

Heart of mine began to glow

Our exchange was ignored by most passersby

I wanted a photo, but too close by my feet it would lie

I conversed with the cat in softly spoken word

My one sided conversation with the cat, a lady overheard

Because of a big white cat, two cat lovers would meet

Simply a meeting planned by God; no great extraordinary feat

Remember, God’s timing is perfect

He planned in advance for our paths to intersect

Trudy and I shared something quite rare

While we talked, the big white cat was there

I told her of the love story of myself and Woody

Did he hear me speak these words of love? Could he?

I remember Trudy’s sincere embrace

As a tear slipped down my face

Such a sweet, compassionate peeress

Please, please, remember this,

God puts us where He needs us, when He needs us there

To give us strength, comfort, to hold us within His care

Trudy nor I with words did we fawn

Upon leaving the mall, the cat was gone

Trudy and I were strangers before

After our divine meeting, strangers nevermore

Author’s Note: In my heart and soul, I know Trudy is, indeed, a peeress, a noblewoman, an angel.  She didn’t have to take her time with me, to listen, to embrace a grieving sister.  Let her actions be an example to one and all.  Be there when God calls. “To the world, you may be one person, but to one person, you may be the world.” Author unknown

About the Poet
I grew up in rural North Carolina, married for 38 years to my best friend and soulmate, Allen, who retired almost 17 years ago from the Air Force after 24 years of service to our beloved America. We have a daughter, Ashley ( and son-in-law, Kris) and, a son, John, and, our two beautiful grand daughters, Amelia and Haley, and Isaac, our only grandson, all blessings from God. We have four cats; Mr. Peabody, Missy, aka Middle Kitty and Tabby, aka Little Kitty, and Gracie. I've seen a lot of hard times and God has always been here for me to see me through them. I am a vessel God can use to help others in need. If I could be described in one word, it would be that I am an encourager.
