Amelia Is God's Perfect Gift

written by Nan Forehand
August 29, 2014

I trusted God and I truly believed
I loved her before she was ever conceived

Amelia is God's perfect gift
Her smile gives my spirit a lift

She is a sweet, heavenly child
She doesn't know the difference between tame or wild

If Ashley had not met Kris
think of this

There would not be an Amelia to love
God smiled down on all of us from Heaven above

It is exciting to watch her life unfold
She is a greater treasure than silver or gold

Amelia is truly a people magnet
She looks so precious in her white dress and white bonnet

Beautiful blue eyes and blonde hair
I love to rock her in my rocking chair

My, oh my, what a natural beauty
To teach her about God is our pleasure and our duty

Her Grandpa and I are so very, very proud
With hearts as light as a fluffy white cloud

I pray for her parents, Ashley and Kris
Parenthood isn't all sunshine and bliss

Occasional sleepless nights sprinkled among her years
There will be much love, laughter and sometimes tears

As much as we love her, God loves her more
Blessings upon blessings over her life, He will pour

More beautiful than a rose or camellia
Thank you, God for our precious granddaughter, Amelia

Author's note: Amelia's first birthday will be September 12th. This poem is my gift to her. I am so thankful and blessed that her mother is my daughter, Ashley. It takes a village to raise a child. For those who will love her as family and walk beside her as she grows up in her faith, I say a heartfelt thank you. Be there for her when I can not be there. God has great plans for her life. All my love, Nan/Grandma

About the Poet
I grew up in rural North Carolina, married for 38 years to my best friend and soulmate, Allen, who retired almost 17 years ago from the Air Force after 24 years of service to our beloved America. We have a daughter, Ashley ( and son-in-law, Kris) and, a son, John, and, our two beautiful grand daughters, Amelia and Haley, and Isaac, our only grandson, all blessings from God. We have four cats; Mr. Peabody, Missy, aka Middle Kitty and Tabby, aka Little Kitty, and Gracie. I've seen a lot of hard times and God has always been here for me to see me through them. I am a vessel God can use to help others in need. If I could be described in one word, it would be that I am an encourager.
