The Rock Collection

I awoke from peaceful sleep before daylight
'cause God had something special for me to write
travel with me to a place in your mind
I'm sure you'll be surprised at what you find
imagine how rocks become burdens and burdens become rocks
and how we sometimes listen when Satan knocks
we open our door and much to our surprise
Satan delivers burdens, but they're in disguise
you see, things aren't always as they seem
these burdens appear to sparkle and gleam
this salesman offers quite a deal
but, your soul he intends to steal
you believe his eloquent pitch
however, he'd just as soon see you in a ditch
soon after receiving these rocks that sparkle and glow
something sinister and ugly begins to show
these rocks become burdens that weigh you down
they become doubt and guilt; you begin to frown
the longer you wear them the heavier they become
you say a little prayer and the weight eases off some
your back begins to bend under such a burdensome weight
you know you should continue to pray, but you hesitate
do you know or do you care
God has always been there
He's stretching out His arms; these burdens to receive
ready to take them, if only you believe
give Him these burdens and your spirit lifts
He takes them gladly as if they were gifts
did you get the point - did you make the connection
don't let your burdens become a rock collection

Psalm 38:4
my guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear

Psalm 68:19-20
praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign LORD comes escape from death

About the Poet
I grew up in rural North Carolina, married for 38 years to my best friend and soulmate, Allen, who retired almost 17 years ago from the Air Force after 24 years of service to our beloved America. We have a daughter, Ashley ( and son-in-law, Kris) and, a son, John, and, our two beautiful grand daughters, Amelia and Haley, and Isaac, our only grandson, all blessings from God. We have four cats; Mr. Peabody, Missy, aka Middle Kitty and Tabby, aka Little Kitty, and Gracie. I've seen a lot of hard times and God has always been here for me to see me through them. I am a vessel God can use to help others in need. If I could be described in one word, it would be that I am an encourager.
