Granny Trail Lane

blackberry picking in early July
my how time did fly
fragrant mimosa blooms
mockingbird singing his tunes
blueberry picking on a hot summer day
twin fawns frollick and play
on a green leaf he's surely hid
caught my eye - a katydid
across the lake and up the trail
pancake-sized mushroom, so large and pale
summer rain came up fast, but
not very long did it last

years overseas and across this land
over the years we've dreamed and planned
one day to build a house
on Granny Trail Lane

up mountain curves for apples in the fall
oh, the trees, how straight and tall
red and yellow leaves of every shape and size
to build up here would be so wise

butterflies flit and flutter
nothing better than fresh baked bread and butter
muscadines we picked in September
on my birthday, as I remember

mouth-watering aroma of the Thanksgiving spreads
thanks and praise to God as we bowed our heads
turkey and ham and pecan pie
so glad to be home I really could cry

traveling home on Christmas Eve
reminding the children thanks and please
"How much farther do we have to go"
Christmas songs on the radio
here comes Santy Claus
here comes Santy Claus
right down Granny Trail Lane

for years and years we did roam
now it's time to come back home
you see, it's quite plain
it's time to build our house on
Granny Trail Lane!

About the Poet
I grew up in rural North Carolina, married for 38 years to my best friend and soulmate, Allen, who retired almost 17 years ago from the Air Force after 24 years of service to our beloved America. We have a daughter, Ashley ( and son-in-law, Kris) and, a son, John, and, our two beautiful grand daughters, Amelia and Haley, and Isaac, our only grandson, all blessings from God. We have four cats; Mr. Peabody, Missy, aka Middle Kitty and Tabby, aka Little Kitty, and Gracie. I've seen a lot of hard times and God has always been here for me to see me through them. I am a vessel God can use to help others in need. If I could be described in one word, it would be that I am an encourager.
