Let Life's Lessons Prvail

Most of life's lessons I learned as a child. I was born during the Great Depression and grew up in a small mid-western town with a world at war. These decades always reminded us to share, give, help, console and respect each other.

Each morning I awoke to a new day - yesterday forgotten and tomorrow the future.

Early in life I learned the value of education - "Go to school, OR ELSE." The only alternative to learning was (and still is) ignorance.
My parents taught that love, morals and respect create wealth far greater than material riches.

I recognized the fact that mistakes would be made, but life goes on and one learns from the experience of failing.

I learned it hurts when you fall, but pick yourself up, dust yourself off and try again.

I was told to fight my own battles, whether verbal or physical, and to defend what I believed.

I perceived imagination could produce a lot of good things and dreams do come true.

I think the most fantastic thing I learned was to enjoy God and his gifts to man -- a beautiful sunset, wind whispering through the trees, the sweet smell of lilac, honeysuckle and new-mown grass, the song of a bird and sparkling diamong dewdrops on red velvet roses.

These lessons, taught by my parents, are stored in my heart and mind. Although they have not solved the problems of the world, I am sure they have made a difference in my life.

About the Poet
I still have 4 grandsons and love to write. Although it hasn't been easy (nothing worth while ever is), on June 1 Floyd and I will celebrate our 57th wedding anniversary.
