Woody, My Beloved Brother

Woody, My Beloved Brother

my dear, departed Woody now rests by our Master's throne

he dwells within my heart - I am never, ever alone

today we laid his body to rest

he is surely one of Heaven's best

held up and supported by a loving arm

within Martha's embrace, to keep me warm

stiff wind brought a February chill

the starts and stripes secured and still

so moving to witness our colors folded

into a triangular blue field of stars it was molded

to Judy, his wife, it was respectfully presented

with honor and integrity, our country he defended

as I pen these words, I feel his presence

even more - his loving essence

exhausted -  sweet sleep won't come

this bedroom becomes my sanctum

and so - it is morning before the dawn

February 25th has come and gone

a love everlasting -  for ever and ever

so proud and thankful God made me Woody's sister

About the Poet
I grew up in rural North Carolina, married for 38 years to my best friend and soulmate, Allen, who retired almost 17 years ago from the Air Force after 24 years of service to our beloved America. We have a daughter, Ashley ( and son-in-law, Kris) and, a son, John, and, our two beautiful grand daughters, Amelia and Haley, and Isaac, our only grandson, all blessings from God. We have four cats; Mr. Peabody, Missy, aka Middle Kitty and Tabby, aka Little Kitty, and Gracie. I've seen a lot of hard times and God has always been here for me to see me through them. I am a vessel God can use to help others in need. If I could be described in one word, it would be that I am an encourager.
