A Changed Perspective

A Changed Perspective

yesterday I went into my woods and dug up a fern

placed it in a pot and put it in the shade so it would not burn

in perfect view from my front porch swing

thinking of all the joy it would bring

all the while, my lab pup, Bob by my side

joy at being with me he could not hide

today, much to my dismay - so very distraught

around the house with my fern Bob did trot

he carried that pot in his mouth and dumped it

had I seen that pot-filled mouth, I might have thumped it

now suddenly fernless and potless

here's where my story twists and turns

received an email tonight that taught me a lot about ferns

pictures of Greensburg, Kansas after the twister

man - I sure felt bad - let me tell ya mister

so distraught over a fern pot overturned

after seeing those pictures with shame I burned

I'm so sorry, forgive me please

right now I feel like such a sleaze

it was just a little fern, but to me it meant a lot

I'm so very thankful for all I've got

I pray for all those Kansas folk

now, I have a changed perspective and that's no joke

About the Poet
I grew up in rural North Carolina, married for 38 years to my best friend and soulmate, Allen, who retired almost 17 years ago from the Air Force after 24 years of service to our beloved America. We have a daughter, Ashley ( and son-in-law, Kris) and, a son, John, and, our two beautiful grand daughters, Amelia and Haley, and Isaac, our only grandson, all blessings from God. We have four cats; Mr. Peabody, Missy, aka Middle Kitty and Tabby, aka Little Kitty, and Gracie. I've seen a lot of hard times and God has always been here for me to see me through them. I am a vessel God can use to help others in need. If I could be described in one word, it would be that I am an encourager.
