My Gem Tree

My Gem Tree

Only one person ever called me a gem
I surely will never forget him
Grandma gave me her earrings of emerald green
beautiful as any I've ever seen
I'm not as young as I used to be
through the years, I've collected lots of jewelry
each gem has it's own tale
bought most every piece on sale
some came from "my favorite store"
others were gifts from Christmas's before
I love jewels that sparkle and shine
to me each item is very fine
jewels of crystal, rhinestone, silver and gold
a few are recent, others quite old
chains of gold and necklaces of pearl
black onyx earrings from when I was a girl
that special pin - a single red rose
a unique pink rose I also chose
all these things of which I mention
each and every one deserve special attention
I enjoy being quite spontaneous
an idea came - undoubtedly instantaneous
bought a conical, styrofoam tree
wrapped it in fabric of beige, just for me
'round the bottom edge -- yo-yo's of calico print
this lovely idea must have been Heaven sent
my tree was adorned with studs and jewels
extra long, pearlized pins were my tools
what a lovely, charming collection
can't accuse me of dereliction
these special jewels now on display
There! I've shown you my gem tree I made today!

About the Poet
I grew up in rural North Carolina, married for 38 years to my best friend and soulmate, Allen, who retired almost 17 years ago from the Air Force after 24 years of service to our beloved America. We have a daughter, Ashley ( and son-in-law, Kris) and, a son, John, and, our two beautiful grand daughters, Amelia and Haley, and Isaac, our only grandson, all blessings from God. We have four cats; Mr. Peabody, Missy, aka Middle Kitty and Tabby, aka Little Kitty, and Gracie. I've seen a lot of hard times and God has always been here for me to see me through them. I am a vessel God can use to help others in need. If I could be described in one word, it would be that I am an encourager.
