Blessings of the Bears

Blessings of the bears
only come because our Savior deeply cares

The small child was in great pain that night
A little white bear brought a smile and calmed his fright

The lady in remission of cancer beamed with pride
Said she felt her bear has a kindred spirit inside

Boo boo Bear was a big blessing to a little boy
Glue stitches were no fun as he held tightly to the stuffed toy

Zackary has carried Captain Hook everywhere
After the fishing hook accident he was comforted by that teddy bear

For her son's birthday party she said, "no gifts, bring teddy bears"
"He has so much," she said.  Now, there's a lady who really cares

Her daughter fractured her arm and received a bear
In the hospital, Mom was praising the Lord, right then and there

Mr. Teddy and his little boy snuggled in sweet slumber
Severely dehydrated and not feeling good at all as I remember

She went in to the hospital with eyes full of tears and fear, surely
She left there with a smile on her face, holding her little brown bear securely

Rushed to the hospital without her security baby and passy
She went in with a febrile seizure and left with her new teddy, a happy little lassie

With five stitches she left the hospital, that little trooper
She thinks her teddy bear is Super Duper!

The sick, frail man lay in the hospital bed, deathly ill
His widow holds onto his teddy bear even still

For every baby shower, I give them a special teddy
Always fresh and clean and always at the ready

I could go on and on, story after story, telling of the blessings of the bears
Giving all praise and honor to our Savior who deeply cares

Author's note: As of December 8, 2014, more than 4,325 teddy bears have been given.  God has provided teddy bears in great abundance for those in need of cuddly comfort.  It isn't a ministry without the bears.  I am humbled that God chose me to be a part of His plan and His will in this capacity.  This poem was inspired today by a special lady named Cathy. Nan's Goodwill Bears ministry is filled with the Holy Spirit and continues to serve for the glory of God and for service to mankind.

About the Poet
I grew up in rural North Carolina, married for 38 years to my best friend and soulmate, Allen, who retired almost 17 years ago from the Air Force after 24 years of service to our beloved America. We have a daughter, Ashley ( and son-in-law, Kris) and, a son, John, and, our two beautiful grand daughters, Amelia and Haley, and Isaac, our only grandson, all blessings from God. We have four cats; Mr. Peabody, Missy, aka Middle Kitty and Tabby, aka Little Kitty, and Gracie. I've seen a lot of hard times and God has always been here for me to see me through them. I am a vessel God can use to help others in need. If I could be described in one word, it would be that I am an encourager.
