A Battle Not Won

A Battle Not Won

Once in a far
off land was
a knight who had
won many battles

His heart was
heavy for the
battle he wanted
to most win
eluded him,
true love

She was of a land
far away her
hand spoken for
by another

With his love
lost to him
he once again
stepped upon the
field of battle

Not caring if
life was taken
from him

Charging the enemy
he lay down his sword
as he had lain
down his heart

Taking no mercy
his enemy plunged
his weapon

He felt nothing
only thankful of
being released from
this life he wanted
no more

As he slipped
away upon this
cold empty field
his last thought
remained on the
love he would
never see never
feel

Giving up life
eyes closing he
faded to a
place where he
would hurt no
more
