The Old Pond

The Old Pond

Snow so white,
Children's delight.
Hidden earth tones,
in this white zone.
Blowing blizzards,
sleeping lizards,
beneath a frozen pond.

Let's play hockey,
Don't be cocky,
keep those skates,
beneath your feet!

Frozen floor,
What fun you give us,
as across you we would soar!
slipping sliding,
falling hiding,
in a snow bank on the shore.

Frozen noses,
curled up toes,
gloves all soaked,
from melted snow.
Walking slowly,
toward the house,
looking for the fire
to warm us like a
little weary mouse.

Old wood burner,
in the corner
putting out the heat.
All us children
gathered round her,
warming up our frozen feet.

Soon the pond,
will yield her hardness,
to the Sun's heating rays;
and the pond will yield her purpose,
for the new games we will play.
Just the place to do our thing...
