Daughter Do You Love Me?

Daughter, Do You Love Me?

I climb to hilltop, searching height
from East there comes a brilliant light
from light I hear a voice so sweet
say "Climb down, child, and wash your feet."

I climb back down from where I'd seen
that brilliant light as if by dream
I wash my feet then think to sleep
again sweet voice says "Wash your feet."

I start to question, but do not
I slip from bed to water, hot
I suds, I scrub, know feet are clean
back to my bed, perchance to dream.

In dream I climb to hilltop height
from East I see Golgotha's light
from light I watch my Savior die
for love of sinners, give His life ...

"My Daughter, do you love Me true?"
Yes truly, Lord, You know I do.
"How much do you love Me, Eve?
Enough to let ME wash your feet?"

There is no pride in Jesus' love for us. There can be no pride in our love for Him.
Savior, teach us.

About the Poet
I feel truly blessed to have been a wife, mother, grandmother and servant of God through salvation in Jesus Christ my Lord. I pray that my offering to Him through this seemingly innocuous form of communication called poetry will always lift His Name above all other names. May God bless each of us in this pursuit.
