One Soul at a Time

One Soul at a Time

A first-rate old soldier wore clothes second-hand
sang on the street corner for coins in a can
his rich baritone enticed walkers to come
between song selections, he spoke of God's Son:

"I once was a warrior with medals on chest
a purple heart soldier, I fought with the best
but my heart changed color, my talk and my walk
when I met my Savior at Old Kitty Hawk."

Then he sang a song I will never forget
about Jesus' death and the veil that was rent
how Christ' Blood atones now for all who draw near
"One Soul At A Time" is this song I still hear.

I've faith that my father knew I'd find my way
to Jesus our Savior before down he lay
saved coins from a tin can; small fortune in dimes
all given to others ... one soul at a time.

That first-rate old soldier in clothes second-hand
awaits his new body 'neath hallowed brown sand
now I am his son you hear sing as you walk
on the corner of Soul Street and Old Kitty Hawk.

About the Poet
I feel truly blessed to have been a wife, mother, grandmother and servant of God through salvation in Jesus Christ my Lord. I pray that my offering to Him through this seemingly innocuous form of communication called poetry will always lift His Name above all other names. May God bless each of us in this pursuit.
