An Old-Fashioned Mother

An Old-Fashioned Mother

I had an old-fashioned mother
her thoughts precede the times;
farm houses and white picket fence
scent of sun-dried clothes on lines.

Sunday morning breakfast prayers,
veggies from the garden
fresh eggs and milk to start Lord's Day
then off to hear the parson.

White bonnets dotting countryside
black buggies pulled by horses
the ambling sound of hooves on dirt
as beasts of burden courses ...

Yes mother was old-fashioned
and I loved her that way.
She was modest and soft-spoken
but oh! how she could pray.

My dear mother was not preachy
though just one glance my way
spoke volumes to my attitude
... told me I best not stray.

I find myself at her age then
when she shared histories
of days that passed too quickly
lost now to memories.

But what my mother taught me
today still lives in me.
To keep God first before all else
then share my memories.

About the Poet
I feel truly blessed to have been a wife, mother, grandmother and servant of God through salvation in Jesus Christ my Lord. I pray that my offering to Him through this seemingly innocuous form of communication called poetry will always lift His Name above all other names. May God bless each of us in this pursuit.
