Goliath Slain

On opposite hills;

Israelite and Philistine;

Came a champion from Gath,

A Philistine,

A giant of a man called Goliath.

Heavily armoured,

In bronze, iron, and mail;

To the Israel component,

He hurled his assail;

“Send forth an opponent.”

So the youngest son,

Of the Eprathite Jesse;

The shepherd boy David,

Carrying bread and cheese,

Set out on his errand.

“I’ll fight him”

David said to Saul;

As I would a lion or a bear;

To the astonishment of all;

The lad showed no fear.

From a stream;

Five smooth stones,

His shepherd’s staff, and sling,

He chose;

Comeuppance to a giant to bring;

One stone

From his sling he drew,

And with it, the giant Goliath,

David slew.
