Great Tug-of-War

Great Tug-of-War

Thistles in the field, tares in the wheat,
fruit in the garden that we should not eat.

In us is a nature that pulls us in two,
a violent struggle inside me, inside you.

Like darkness, and light, the good, and the bad,
emotion that's in us, I'm happy, I'm sad.

Selfish, or giving, it's a great tug-of-war.
The side you are pulling is the one you love more.

Here's an example that I'd like to share,
regarding a man that really did care.

David was a man. Of him you have heard.
This is his story from God's holy word.

If grace was a rainbow with a promise so true,
David traveled that spectrum on a back drop of blue.

His heart cried for God more than anyone's could.
With love for our God he did all that was good.

Slaying Goliath, then became a great king.
In God's holy name he could do anything.

Sometimes it seems easy, but can be very hard.
Temptation strikes when you let down your guard.

The man after God's heart had gone astray.
No need for the details, although shameful I'll say.

So don't ever think there's no struggle in you,
you will find out your wrong just as sure as you do.

David had the promise of that coming day
when Jesus would come and show us all the way.

Thus he never gave up, he got back in God's grace,
wrote beautiful psalms seeking after God's face.

Find strength in this thought, simply put but so true,
The battle that's fought down inside is for you!
