Playground

Kids can't stay still
for long--even in death,
they become restless,
and gather
on the rolling lawn
to play tag among
the markers, stepping softly
over elders
who need their sleep,
or they play stick-ball
with rounded stones,
and pine branches
up by Johnson's Vault
where it's flat,
letting the young ones
tag along for fun,
and when the air is still,
you can hear their songs
that sound like wind
in the nearby cedars,
far into the night,
far into the night.
