When Days Were Lollipops

When Days Were Lollipops

Summer used to hang
like a sheer frock,
neck loose,
and skirts unbinding
waved softly in the breeze
in the years when a bird
wouldn't fit in the palm,
and grass grew
closer to my knees.

Now,that season drapes
heavily,falling in damp
woolen pleats that lay
idly on the skin
like a weary guest
that is forced to visit.
I miss the old frock,
when I shed winter's weight,
and days were lollipops.
