Summer Flowers

Summer Flowers

It's summertime and the weather is fine.

So do I get out and go? Yeah some of the time.

Sit on my porch?   Sometimes I do,

Watching the critters, there's more than a few.

Go on vacation?  No, not I...

Can't afford to drive, can't afford to fly.

But I'm grateful for this summertime heat,

For open windows and for bare feet.

I sweat out the mowing, drink iced lemonade

As I prop up my feet in the cool of the shade.

I admire neighbors flowers, the ones I can see,

But I must admit it's silk flowers for me!

No planting, no weeding, no watering, no hoe,

No fussing, no mussing to get them to grow.

No snipping or tending, no bother at all,

When summer ends I change them for fall.

Frost will not hurt them, turn them to brown.

Beautiful flowers 'til cold freezes the ground.

I pull 'em and clean 'em and put 'em away.

I'll "plant" them again on next years summer day.
