An Eyewitness Account of Christ's Crucifixion

On the day of Christ’s crucifixion

I stood just a stones throw away.

I heard them hammer in the nails

and I saw Him turn very pale.

I watched in anguish and in pain

as the precious Lamb of God was slain.

I saw the tide of crimson

flow from His hands and feet.

I cried out in pain and sorrow

as I witnessed this horror.

I heard Him cry “It is finished”,

then He gave up His ghost.

But, I knew that there was more to come

for this was God’s own Son.

When He arose from death’s miry grave

His purpose and power would be revealed

For death could not hold Him back.

In triumph He would crush the serpent’s heel.

Tears flowed freely down my face

as I witnessed God’s amazing grace.

Slowly it began to sink in

that Jesus died for my sin.

O how precious is the gift that God has given

so that one day I can live in heaven.
