The Christmas Present

On a cold winter's night,
A star shone bright
Over the spot where Jesus lay,
As He slept on a bed of hay.
Angels sang throughout the heavens
As God gave Mary His blessing,
For the birth of His precious son.
Now through Christ a new hope had begun.
In the fields of Bethlehem,
Shepherds were afraid when an angel came.
He brought good news that night,
Reassuring them that everything would be
all right.
He said that this would be a sign:
In a manger they would find
A tiny babe wrapped in swaddling clothes,
With Mary His mother hovering close.
As Mary gazed down on her baby boy
Her heart leapt with great joy.
Joseph smiled at Mary and said:
"Praise God for this precious, holy babe."
What a wonderful Christmas present
That God sent to us from heaven.
