A Year Today

Lord, it's been a year today now,
And I should be on the mend;
But I lost more than my mother, Lord,
I lost my dearest friend.

She's the one that I'd confide in
When some praise had made my day,
She's the one that I'd complain to
If some hurt had come my way.

She's the one that I would turn to
When I needed some advice;
My best critic, she was candid,
She gave truth: unkind or nice.

Now my life seems less important,
Like I've lost my cheering-squad;
No one left to give approval,
No one left here to applaud.

Lord, I love her far too much
To bid her leave her mansion there,
But this emptiness when missing her
Is just too hard to bear.

So please hug her for me, Jesus,
And then whisper in her ear:
The day's closer when *I'll* hold her,
'Cause today it's been a year.

About the Poet
IN MEMORIAM I'm just a servant of the Lord that wants to magnify Him through poetry, and to cause others to focus on Him.
