The Ship of Zion...
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

The Ship of Zion...

For long the ship was idle

Moored close against the quay

And the ropes that held were strong

Yet they said that she was free

But tradition bound her bow

Fear of men held fast her stern

Most crew had long forgotten

How to pray

Yet a handful still were faithful

Realizing what could be

Though ‘twas years since they had ventured

Out to sea

Then a zephyr stirred the rigging

All able bodied…willing

And a yearning near forgotten

Touched their heart

Encouraged to pray on

Soon the wind grew very strong

And mooring lines were severed

With a start

In the power of God it’s sailing

Of His Spirit they’re availing

Each inch of canvas spread above the waves

With compass heaven-set

Each storm makes them stronger yet

And the shanty that they sing is

‘Jesus Saves!’

About the Poet
My hope is that through the poems I write God will be glorified. I am reliant on the Holy Spirit for anything meaningful to say. I am 71 years of age, married with three of a family...a retired Policeman living in Aberdeen, Scotland. I play the Classical Guitar about grade4/5 level...and also paint after a fashion...although Van Gogh's in no danger!! I learned of this site from a Christian friend,Laurie Jenkins. I do hope that God blesses you through my poetry. Every Blessing in Christ, Raymond
