The Visitor (memories)

The Visitor

Tiptoeing into my room
in the quiet of the night,
She bears the gentle prodding
of a distant memory.

I am grateful for the gift she brings;
The mood is light,- 'til longings
for days gone by,
Down the Bird of Joy in flight!

She greets me at the seaside
while I gaze from the shore,
And whispers not; but
sighs, with silent eloquence.

Then, "Spread the canvas wide,"
I say, "and paint the colors
Boldly! For life is life
and breath is strength!"

My visitor obliges, as
echoes of the past return,
And both sorrows and delights
give wings to my tomorrows.
