Yesterday
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

Other Poems by Gynith Roberts

This was written for my 50th Class Reunion.

Each tomorrow becomes today
And soon will be our yesterday.

Fifty years? No! It can't be. What happened to yesterday when we were wild as the forests and free as the birds? What happened to yesterday when no mountain was too high, no river too dep and nothing seemed impossible? What happened to yesterday?

When I go back into my days of yesterday I become oblivious to my surroundings as I view, with the minds eye, the silhouettes of youth --

Their laughter rings through dark night skies.
Their voices are like the song of whispering wind.
Their eyes sparkle as diamond dewdrops on green summer grass, and I feel their nearness and quietness as raindrops patter on a roof or soft white snow drifts down to cover the earth.

As I walk amid the sands of time the shadows slowly fade and I stand alone. ButI will never be truly alone, for these days of yesterday shall remain eternally in the infinitely continuous memories amassed in the windows of my mind.

Fifty years? Yes. It's true. But what happend to yesterday? It flew by on the winds of time and touched us as it passed.

Gynith

About the Poet
I still have 4 grandsons and love to write. Although it hasn't been easy (nothing worth while ever is), on June 1 Floyd and I will celebrate our 57th wedding anniversary.
