Mists

On such and such a road I trod
Where neither faun nor man arrayed
to foot in stoic incident
or sought to self applaud.
Bordered East were yellowed thought
appealing nought to child or grown
yet strewing references keen
when times with doubt are frought.

My other arm I fling to see
a mirage maze of Life's intent
prepared by yesteryear and day
With transient apathy.

Midst fair and foul thus amble I
hence neither this nor that perceive
but step in quiet step each step
to tread the mists at nigh.
