Time Scores, While Some Sleep

Time Scores, While Some Sleep

an inverted refrain

I've been asleep, don't know the score.
Awaiting lunch, my eyes just roam...
A teen has tried five times or more
to reach a friend but no one's home.
       Calls are ignored for time has scored.
       There's no one home as my eyes roam.

Much older man holds opened book
as if its thoughts preoccupy.
Noticing two who share a look
of shocking loss, we hear her cry.
       He shuts his book with anxious look
       and shuts his eye from tears that try.

Blind stranger strolls with oft-seen pup.
The dog breaks loose, comes to my hand;
tempted by my lunch, he jumps up.
One checks her watch then checks bus stand.
       Has she been stood-up? Lonesome pup
       in my hand seems to understand?

As children frolic on the swings;
moms dressed in black pace the lawn.
Waitress eyes these very same things
then she comments on what goes on,
       "We're all on swings and time's on wings;
       Is this the dawn when life moves on?"

Score is tied; Christians have raptured.
We who remain in wonderment
must search our brains to re-capture
some mem'ry of God and "repent?".
       Grace to capture, after rapture,
       Should we repent or face descent?

About the Poet
Growing older with some pains and discomfort, graying hair, glasses, partial plate and hearing aids but with complete assurance of my eternal domain. Saved by choice by Gods free grace by Jesus life, death and resurrection. Born and bred in the Bluegrass State for 24 years, I crossed the Ohio River and became a Hoosier forever thereafter until that time God calls me to my heavenly home. Christian for fifty-five plus years. Church musician and SS teacher for most all of my Wednesdays and Sundays. Public school teacher for thirty-six school terms; retired with a class now of three grandchildren off and on during the week. Wife for half my life to the same superman. Mama to two unique sons. Mother-in-law to a fine daughter; Nana to one darling girl and two handsome guys. God has blessed me abundantly; thank you, Father. God quiets my hackles; God quickens my heart; God quells my hunger. Blessed be His holy name.
