Body, Soul and Spirit

The body is given far too much weight
the real me is what Christ deems worth saving.
It’s not how I dress, the look I create,
nor the plush garments my pride is craving.

The real me only Jesus can perfect;
my body may decay but not my soul.
No matter the clothes, my being can’t connect
if deep at my core there lies a great hole.

The body is just a house for my soul
and my birth soul no beauty will achieve.
Passions unreined, mind bent on control,
my callous will I inherit from Eve.

My self-centered soul puts on a façade;
my spirit is lifeless, dormant within.
Dead - the component that walks with God.
Dark - the alleyway traveled in sin.

Where rests my spirit that key piece of me?
the nucleus that does the praying.
Communion with God transforms soul and body
but not when my spirit is straying.

My spirit must accept the Lord’s dressing.
His gentle wisdom and love should fit me
to Christ-like submission and to confessing

my “fig-leaf” attire – hopeless and flimsy.

Jesus is the Source my friends need to see.
My soul’s lone covering - His righteousness
wearing with meekness His truth and His mercy

displaying His Light in peace or distress.

God grants me warmth t’wards my worst enemy.
Deep in my spirit sealing that great hole,
God’s Spirit inhabits and inspires me.
My body - His temple - my highest goal.

About the Poet
Growing older with some pains and discomfort, graying hair, glasses, partial plate and hearing aids but with complete assurance of my eternal domain. Saved by choice by Gods free grace by Jesus life, death and resurrection. Born and bred in the Bluegrass State for 24 years, I crossed the Ohio River and became a Hoosier forever thereafter until that time God calls me to my heavenly home. Christian for fifty-five plus years. Church musician and SS teacher for most all of my Wednesdays and Sundays. Public school teacher for thirty-six school terms; retired with a class now of three grandchildren off and on during the week. Wife for half my life to the same superman. Mama to two unique sons. Mother-in-law to a fine daughter; Nana to one darling girl and two handsome guys. God has blessed me abundantly; thank you, Father. God quiets my hackles; God quickens my heart; God quells my hunger. Blessed be His holy name.
