Truth Bound by Neglect

Truth Bound by Neglect

a canzonetta prime

Bearing the laws once carved out in stone
there lies a treasure, safe on my shelf.
Promises countless, most yet unknown,
are found in this book like ore in a delf,
closed and unmined their knowledge postponed.
Its wisdom if read could narrow the gulf
that threatens me daily while I bemoan
God's sentence that's certain on my behalf.

Durable leather, skillfully sewn,
intricate artwork, many a graph,
elegant gilding, author unknown.

When bound by neglect truth fades on the shelf.
Truth that would lighten heartache's sad drone;
bare truth that could part the wheat from the chaff.
Blest message of hope was sent to atone;
God's mercy explained there in my behalf.

NOTES:

This canzonetta was inspired by the recent choice of the Florida preacher to quit his vendetta against the Koran.  But do we all commit similiar disservice to our holy books by neglect? It is not disrespect, per se, and it is not done with malcontent or malice, just sheer neglect of that which is treasure.

About the Poet
Growing older with some pains and discomfort, graying hair, glasses, partial plate and hearing aids but with complete assurance of my eternal domain. Saved by choice by Gods free grace by Jesus life, death and resurrection. Born and bred in the Bluegrass State for 24 years, I crossed the Ohio River and became a Hoosier forever thereafter until that time God calls me to my heavenly home. Christian for fifty-five plus years. Church musician and SS teacher for most all of my Wednesdays and Sundays. Public school teacher for thirty-six school terms; retired with a class now of three grandchildren off and on during the week. Wife for half my life to the same superman. Mama to two unique sons. Mother-in-law to a fine daughter; Nana to one darling girl and two handsome guys. God has blessed me abundantly; thank you, Father. God quiets my hackles; God quickens my heart; God quells my hunger. Blessed be His holy name.
