He Partook Of The Same
 
Did Mary’s waters break upon
A lowly donkey’s haunches
With miles of hardship undergone
The cross no liquid staunches
 
Upon a colt or ass’s foal
A meek lamb rode to slaughter
Where blood and water on harsh knoll
Pierced soul of mother daughter
 
Foreshadowed on that prior mount
Where coarse hairs cross configured
Tradition renders its account
Ere babe was so disfigured
 
No longer wrapped in swaddling bands
He suffered fools in masses
Hosannas heralded pierced hands
And jeers from rank jackasses
 
Who never worshipped at a stall
Or followed star in wonder
But mingled vinegar with gall
To sanction Satan’s blunder
 
He had no right to crucify
The spotless Lamb of Glory
This darkened deed did nullify
Dominion o’er man’s story
 
Christ our Great Carpenter who tames
Wood cross and all cross members
Has staked eternal counterclaims
And shivered hell’s hot timbers
 
Partaking in our flesh and blood
He makes us too partakers
Through second birth that cleansing flood
Gives Jesus countless brothers
