Life's Intermission Life's Intermission Death and dying are intrusions Which disrupt our way of life Terminating all illusions In this vale of toil and strife Life does not go on forever Though we act as though it does Death is detailed to dissever Oft when life is just abuzz We repress most thoughts of dying Even when our bodies age Months and years like moments flying Make swift endings hard to gauge Some folks fearful for a lifetime Dread that dark impending day No time ever seems like prime time To remove or fade away Many things remain unfinished Friends forget to say goodbye Most brief candles get extinguished By a woe-begotten sigh Fearful fetters must be broken By our resurrected Lord Who remains our timeless token Of God’s strong and loving cord Linking past present and future Knitting hearts both here and gone Comforting beyond conjecture When our loved ones journey on Death is but a brief transition Staged for every man to play Dying is life’s intermission In God’s everlasting day © Duane W. About the Poet
Born in Anacortes WA USA on 11/24/1944.
Raised mostly in Nyasaland(now Malawi) by missionary parents. Married to Carol, an Australian, who is the mother of our four children. After Seattle Pacific University and graduate studies at Princeton Theological Seminary and marriage, spent over two decades in missionary work mostly in Zimbabwe. Currently in Anacortes, but for 12 years did a regular program on www.swradioafrica.com where I sometimes shared poetry which I have been writing, off and on, since 1962. God's faithfulness is from everlasting to everlasting.
