A Full Moon Greeting

3/12/2017

On my way home at night, when

a full, pale moon appeared before the stars

twinkled in the sky, but Orion threw

his sword to catch not a lover, their

lights dazzled the sky but glowing spears.

The pain, almost unbearable, and

a wonder my eyes hadn’t water’d;

still, holding mentally what I saw in heaven

I knew if I made it this close to home with

my burden, I remembered crowded buses, their

longer rides home, I could hold my unshed tears.

I don’t know if they felt as grouchy as I did.

They must have seen a greater he

who touched travelers to smile

on their weariness, energize his

people, and allow them to work

through their commuter difficulties to

bear the ride home and see

their families or companions as I did.

And when I reached home, it was he

that gave me rest and relief; who

watches me, forgiving mistakes I made.

My pain was nothing compared to the Lamb

who suffered on Calvary to make

sure sins were forgiven for thee.

Author's Note - This kind of poem is called A Golden Shovel poem. I got this prompt from Poets&Writers.org. At this moment, I forget the poet who invented this form. The idea is to take a short poem or several lines from a poem, creating your own, using the poem or lines for the end words of each line. The poem I chose (and what a challenge!) was William Blake's "The Tyger." I used the 5th stanzz. It's a poem I've always liked. See below:

 A Golden Shovel

poem according to the

the 5th stanza of “The Tyger” by William Blake

“When the stars threw down their spears

And water’d heaven with their tears:

Did he smile his work to see?

Did he who made the Lamb make thee?”

About the Poet
Michelle Angelini, aka Chelle, has been writing poetry for over 40 years. She has been published in many Southern California chapbooks and calendars. I am retired and dealing with my health issues. My Saviour, Jesus is always with me. God holds me within His wings. I am working slowly on a second book poetry and possibly my photography. And, I'm over 65 now and still loving it, even though my social life is not what it once was because of the painful fibromyalgia. It's quite frustrating, but I know Jesus still has "work" for me to do to show how much He blesses me.
