God's Standard

In the beginning, God implemented
The standards of His choice
It was the perfect universe
Spoke into existence by His voice

No taint or tarnish could be found
Perfection was His attribute
The mark of sin was then unknown
His standard was an absolute

The only restriction He did mandate
Of one tree He said: - "DO NOT EAT"
For someone created in His image
It seems this would be a simple feat

Satan in his shrewd and tactful way
Enticed, lured, and made his plea
He refuted the proclamation of God
The "fall" came, - - in Genesis three

When disobedience there began
Turmoil and strife entered in
Centuries later, it still abides
What a price to pay, - - for sin !

Yet, by long-suffering and undying love
God offered a covering for all sin
By accepting His ultimate sacrifice
A crown of life, we may win

But still as we journey here below
Basic standards, are still in place
To His "do not's", we must adhere
Or painful consequences, we will face

By amazing grace, we can enter in
But rewards may be small
To be called "a good faithful servant"
We must have been faithful to His call
