In the Beginning

         In the Beginning

His pure light lit the dark and deep
When summoned by His voice
And shone the guidance all will reap
Who make His light their choice.

The waters of all life He made
In Heaven and on earth,
And each to where He sent obeyed
To help give life new birth.

With land He calmed the raging seas
Which gently stroked the shore
Where spouted life just as He pleased
To grow creation more.

A glowing sun by day to warm,
A softened moon by night,
The solar-lunar time conformed
To seasons made just right.

He filled the oceans, filled the land
With creatures ordered such
That nature followed His command
When prompted by His touch.

And yet, His world was incomplete,
Although, all that was made
Would compliment the Master’s feat,
But, will-lessly obeyed.

He lifted up the fertile earth
And molded in His hands
A will made free in human birth,
And set man o’er all lands.

His image in man’s flesh and bone-
Eternity within,
Where love and adoration shone,
But also, choice to sin.

Out from His Love, He gave man choice,
Man’s love surrendered to
The call his heart heard from one voice,
The heart cannot choose two.

Since Adam's heart did not obey,
He hid from Love and could not stay.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
