Iris Bly

In a small town
On the shore of the north sea,
lived a lass called Iris Bly,
whose spirit ran free
to soar with the clouds
above the river Dee.

She spiraled like leaves
on the drafts of a fall day,
looking for a love lost,
while sailing in the bay,
who left her with a babe,
perhaps his, we cannot say.

Her babe was lost to fever,
her heartbreak was complete,
her spirit no longer soared
to find that lover sweet,
and gave up all, with a deep sigh,
as she walked into the ocean
where the horizon meets the sky.
