You Saved Our 100-Year Old School

Change occurred in Rockville when friend Eileen came to town

She just could not believe they would tear that historic building down.

She quickly met together with several citizens who cared,

Through their heroic effort several buildings would be spared.

Traveling south to Randolph Road she observed the little school,

All boarded up, abandoned, neglect finally took its toll.

Eileen said, "This cannot be, it dates from nineteen-hundred nine,

Other people said, "That old school isn't worth a dime."

She hurried off to Baltimore, "That school's a link in history's chain,

It must not be destroyed; today we've come to make our claim."

She got it for one dollar, went home to raise some volunteers

To save the little school they came; the obstacles held no fears.

So now we gather here to celebrate the school's one hundred years

But we also come, Eileen, to thank you for all your work and tears.

On this important centennial, we want to celebrate you, too

And say how much we love you for saving Montrose School.
