"Valentine Day" On that special day in February I met him in the marketplace His countenance was, forlorn and sad Clearly sorrow, he did embrace I knew it was, just months ago The companion who had graced his side Through many sunsets, on their farm Now - death had taken away his bride
As we talked about the affairs of life
He related how, in years gone by It had been his custom on this day A box of candy, he would always buy
And so he said, on this same day
Likewise, he had done the same Somehow it seemed , the thing to do An act of love, it would proclaim
In life we never know the pain
Someone else is going through Unless "in their shoes", we have trod Still, - they may have a different view
Let us never fail, to lend a ear
And be attentive to their plight Just offer comfort, in time of grief And strive to make their burden light Colan L Hiatt = 09-12-11 © All Rights Reserved |

About the Poet
I live in N.C., and have been writing poetry for several years. Writing is the greatest "outlet" I have ever experienced to release my inner emotions, and express my stance on spiritual issues. Most compositions, are derived from observing
"down-to-earth" events that occur around us. Many offer a personal "mini-story" with a metaphor of spiritual implications that portray God as the ultimate solution to life's problems.
My goal is that any and all compositions will present Christ and His sacrifice at Calvary as the solution to problems encountered along our journey.
