Finality
The long line moved slowly forward Toward the registry where I would sign And just beyond, the lifeless form I would observe the final time A rash of memories came rushing back Of youth and midyears from the past Park outings, our families did enjoy And now today, this great contrast In former years the conversation Was simple and carefree Recreation, clothes and vacation spots Or perhaps a brand new recipe I treasure the camaraderie that we knew A boost to our spirits it did provide Each others burdens we would share Impending gloom was thrust aside As we confront reality It erases all our doubt Flames no longer dominate Now flickering embers, have gone out Only treasured memories now remain Of those who have crossed our path Material "things",- their value gone Grain now separated from the chaff As I approach that gulf ahead And before the Master, I shall stand Have I been faithful to His call Have I honored His command When that river I shall cross one day I'd like to think, that my finality Would then merit His approval Only by grace, that can be reality Colan L Hiatt = 07-07-14 © All Rights Reserved |

About the Poet
I live in N.C., and have been writing poetry for several years. Writing is the greatest "outlet" I have ever experienced to release my inner emotions, and express my stance on spiritual issues. Most compositions, are derived from observing
"down-to-earth" events that occur around us. Many offer a personal "mini-story" with a metaphor of spiritual implications that portray God as the ultimate solution to life's problems.
My goal is that any and all compositions will present Christ and His sacrifice at Calvary as the solution to problems encountered along our journey.
