Tender is the Touch

"And Mary said: 'Behold the maidservant of the Lord,
May it be done to me according to Your word." Luke 1:38

Father,

Tender is the touch
Of the maid-mother Mary
As she kissed the Babe --
He who is the world's Day
Came forth from the womb's night.

Tender is the touch
Of the maid-mother Mary
As she washed the Babe --
He who washes away our Adam
With the Blood of His Love.

Tender is the touch
Of the maid-mother Mary
As she nursed the Babe --
He who feeds us
With the milk of His grace.

Tender is the touch
Of the heart-thorned mother Mary
As she wiped His face of Blood --
He who atoned for our sins
Throught the cleave of the Cross...

Father,

Mary, as mother
Melted into the soil of Your Will and
Magnified You in her soul --
Your Hand-maiden, Your Bond-Servant,

May I do likewise.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
