If I Were Just a Pauper

If I Were Just a Pauper

If I were just a pauper, poor and neglected by those around.
Would I seek Your gracious help, as I feel the coldness from the ground.
Would I seek Your riches instead of begging from people that I don't even
    know.
    Lord, Your Word says that You feed the hungry; watch over strangers;
    and the precious widow.

You hold all the answers Lord, and despite my wretchedness, I come before
    You as my King.
Yet among my meager belongings is a tattered Book of Your divine wisdom,
worth more than life to a ragged me.

So now as I search for a darkened corner; I know that one day I will soon
    enter Your gates.
For in this lifetime I am but a lowly pauper, but in Your eyes I am redeemed
    all worthy to be saved.

So thank You Lord for another day of mercy, and thank You for this slice
    of bread.
And for Your love and warm protection, and for this shelter where I can lay
    my head. Amen

About the Poet
I am 62, and happily married to a wonderful Christian man for 22 years. I was saved and blessed in the seventies, and I really enjoy writing poetry. I have been writing for about two years now. Each day I am anxious to see how God will inspire me.
