Birthmother

Birthmother
Options planned
thinking over and over-
To keep or to give?
In truth, a love gift
pulled from air
of labored breath
Breathing life beyond
the birthing
Cherishing this tiny other
into the pains
of leaving my baby
with another mother

About the Poet
I am a single mom of three and work in health care. Writing poetry has been part of my life since I was very small. Japanese forms fit best with my life right now--I can compose and recompose them in my mind while driving to and from work.
